Problems In the City

Manila is a huge city with over 11 million people. With such a large population come many complications and problems to overcome.

Manila is such a densely populated city with 100s of tonnes of rubbish and other waste materials being produced daily that is constantly polluting and littering the streets and waterways of Manila. One of the main problems manila is facing today would be the pollution of the Pasig River. The Pasig River is 23km long and runs through the majority of Manila. Many people live along the side of the Pasig dumping rubbish and unwanted materials into the water. As a result of doing so the river has become so toxic that is now officially biologically dead.

To solve this problem the PRRC Pasig river rehabilitation commission has set up campaigns and have volunteers helping out 2 to try and save Manilas main River.1

The air in Manila is highly polluted and is horrible for the peoples health who have to live in such a state.

The solution to this problem is being solved at the moment in quite a unique but clever way. A Filipino artist and his team joined together with a Spanish paint manufacturer to create a paint not only to decorate the city but also has a special formula that transforms toxic nitrogen oxide (NOx) in the atmosphere into harmless residue. Around five murals have already been painted around the city in locations that have the highest traveller and pedestrian densities.

Manila has many other problems with transport and traffic that are continuously being resolved.1
